History of the Institute
The Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture which was established in 1980 on the base of Physical Training faculty of the Turkmen State University, in 1997 was changed into the National Institute of Sports and Tourism. The main objective of the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan dated June 12, 2019 is to strengthen the sports potential of the country, improve the system of training highly qualified coaches and athletes. In accordance with the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan the former name of the Institute was changed and now it is called the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports.
The Institute comprises 3 faculties and 13 departments in 8 qualifications. The Institute trains specialists in 46 kinds of sport. The institute provides necessary conditions for increasing the quality of education and training world-class athletes. Studies and trainings of the students are held at the sports complexes that meet international standards. Instructional work conducted according to the up-to-date curriculum. According to the curriculum that attaches in improving educational system, great attention is paid to the practical use of the theory and methods of teaching, thoroughly planning the contents of the disciplines and implementation of it into practice.
The highest awards in different types of sports have been won by our students-athletes in high-level international sports tournaments. Among the graduates and students of the Institute there are a lot of athletes that permanently wrote down names in golden letters in the history of the Turkmen sport. Also at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games that was held in Ashgabat in 2017, “Amul-Hazar-2018” International Rally, as well as the World Championship in Weightlifting-2018 in the capital city, our students and graduates were able to demonstrate high achievements. The national teams named “Student Sport” formed by the students take part in local competitions and gain prize-winning places.
